Different Life

Reclaiming Time from Tech

Over the past week to a week and a half, I have taken a break from several social media platforms and my smartphone. I was raised during a time when computer games, the internet, and cell phones were not yet available. For some time now, I’ve observed how these small devices seem to be damaging society. Most people wouldn’t admit to being addicted to them, but it appears that these devices, from the youngest to the oldest users, are taking over and exerting control over the world. Recently, I had a conversation with someone who mentioned that I seem more agitated after using social media. They noted that since I started stepping back from it, they’ve noticed a positive difference in me.

Embracing Simple Rhythms

I’m currently reading “The Tudor Housewife,” by Alison Sims. These women had to stay organized. They might not have had fancy planners, but they definitely had routines and led tough lives by today’s standards. They were more than just housewives. In a time without stores, doctors, or indoor plumbing, these women had to do everything themselves. I don’t want to turn the clock back that far, but I am taking a big step back to simplify and focus my life a bit more.

Entertainment at Our Fingertips

When the World Wide Web first launched, I felt a bit hesitant. I have always loved books and often find the answers I seek within their pages. However, as the web grew larger and more people began using it, I started to see the potential benefits of this technology. I considered all the possibilities: reading about various topics and learning about different parts of the world through online friends. I have gained a lot of knowledge from the internet, and I even started writing a blog. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I believe I could write an eBook as well. However, today, the internet no longer feels like an authentic or vibrant environment, a sentiment that applies to both children and adults.

More Focused

In recent months, I have explored many ideas, from starting a YouTube channel, creating courses, and applying for an internship as a virtual assistant. I’ve thought about starting a blog and creating a group for my Apiary. You see ads and all kinds of things with people saying to sign up and join a short webinar, and you can earn thousands with what you already know. I’ve attended many webinars, paid for courses, and joined groups, and I believe I’ve gained some valuable knowledge. However, I’ve never figured out how an extreme introvert can find a job. Also, most general tasks are being taken over by AI, and if you “NICHE” down, they expect you to have 2 to 3 years of experience and be available at all times! This is definitely not me.

finding my niche

Finding My Niche

My niche includes older women, particularly empty nesters, who want to spend time with their grandchildren. I’m interested in writing about my home and lifestyle, making candles and other handmade goods, and seeking peace through a slower pace of life—free from clickbait—while incorporating some vintage lifestyle elements.

The Journey

If by some miracle someone happens to come across this while browsing the internet, I would love to hear about your journey. I hope stumbling upon this gives you some food for thought. Take a step back, put the phone down, and reconnect with life. There’s a big world out there waiting to be enjoyed.
